Thursday Thinkings...

  • My thesis for my final English essay received an A+! I'm thrilled. I took the instructor's topic and just "flipped" it. I've got some personal experience with the negative aspect of this topic, so am very pleased she responded so favourably to it. Now on to the essay itself...
  • My temp job starts tomorrow morning at 8:30! I don't really know how long it will last, but any extra work right now is welcome. Apparently they are all sugar hounds, so my friend told me to bring cookies...
  • I joined the gym yesterday. I met with the personal trainer for a chat about what I'm looking for and I ended up purchasing a 4-month membership. Cost: $178.61 (I got a 10% discount for being a gov employee - lots of us around, so applies as a "group" discount). I can use the gym without a membership, but only if accompanied by the trainer, which defeats my purpose and would end up being outrageously expensive. This was the (far) cheaper option. This will take me through to the beginning of August. The gym is less than 5-minutes walk from my house, was pretty quiet (standard, apparently, which is fantastic) and has everything I need.
  • This is one of my challenges for my 45th year - to take better care of myself. I can't NOT afford to do this, so I'm looking at it as an investment in my health, rather than taking on more debt.
  • Have already received most of my textbooks for school! They've arrived over the past couple of days. :)
  • Fat Joey has a vet appointment today. Several claws on his front feet don't retract and end up curling over and growing into the pads. Not sure it hurts necessarily, but it is very uncomfortable for him. I take him to the vet as he gets very agitated when I touch his feet for any reason.
  • Currently 0C and supposed to get to +8 today!! Spring is finally here. :) The snow will be gone in no time at this rate.
  • It's been a long week of evening shifts...
  • Monday night I'm going for sushi. Wednesday evening I'm going for a dinner with a friend whose birthday is the day after mine. Not sure where yet, but it'll be nice to see her and get caught up.

Congrats on your essay mark! That is absolutely brilliant.
Hope the new job goes well. I work with loads of sugar hounds, part of my problem I think.

I love the way you regard the gym as an investment. I know what you mean about not being able to ignore fitness and health. It's so important isn't it?

Hope FJ's vet appointment went ok and he's a happy boy now.

Lovely to hear Spring is on it's way.

Sounds like you've got some lovely things planned for your birthday week.

Plus 8 sounds great for the weather up North... School books are expensive. Congrats on the A+. Are you finishing your degree or taking another type of course?

Sounds like you're all set for school. Since you'll be going full time, be sure and check into the campus gym (if there is one). It was always a fee I had to pay but I never did use their facilities. lol

@SFT - Thanks! I was surprised because up to this point I've been making silly little mistakes on my essays that bring my marks down, so this is great. And the light just went on about the fitness/health thing - it's all well & good to invest for my future, but if I'm not even around to enjoy it or I'm feeling miserable for the entire time, what's the point? I GET IT now... :)

@Sam - Thank you! I'm not a degree kind of gal, I'm registered for a 9-month certificate program in Office Administration at the college. More "practical," I suppose...

@Karen - I'm getting there, yes. It feels good, despite the fact I'm not even formally accepted yet, just registered. And there IS a gym at the college, so this summer membership will hopefully get me motivated, into a routine and disciplined enough to continue alone. If not, there is a student rate at the gym, so it might be doable...

A+ = FANTASTIC!! It looks like you've got the school thing under control!! My kitty has the same problem with her front claws from time to time. I sneak up behind her and wrap her in a towel then clip them myself. She's 18 and doesn't clean herself anymore either so I have to brush her daily which fortunately she loves. You've got better weather than we do down in Southern Ontario!! Snow and ice pellets today! Bet that doesn't happen very often eh? Good idea on the gym membership - I like gyms that allow you do join on a monthly basis. We have one about 5k away in PEI that I'm going to join this summer for two months - I hope to come back a lean mean machine!!
