Dog mushing, Feb 12/12
It's time once again for Sunday Night Chit-Chat, hosted by the lovely Carla!
What are you…
Reading? “Malled” by
Caitlin Kelly. The memoir of a journalist turned retail slave. Due to the
downturn in the economy, Caitlin Kelly, who worked for a NY newspaper, turns to
a big outfitting company in order to bring in some much needed cash. She spent
two years with the company (part-time) before finally having enough. This is
her story of what retail staff are expected to do in the face of low wages, no
benefits, constantly shifting HQ expectations, and customers. Quite enjoyable,
if not a little repetitious at points.
I’m also perusing some of Oprah’s books, those compilation
ones she puts out every year or so. Not a manic fan of Oprah’s, but I do like her
magazine and these books a lot. I can always find something “speaking” to me
when I’m flipping through them.
Watching? Nothing
special, my usual HGTV/DIY selections. J
Listening to? The
washing machine in the spin cycle at the moment!
Cooking/Baking? Will
just be reheating some chicken korma and rice for dinner. Yum! That, or making
an omelette.
Happy you accomplished this week? Purchasing almost all my
required textbooks; starting my countdown for school (168 days); washing some
lovely dogs yesterday at the HSY fundraiser, including a puppy called Moon and
a beautiful brindle Mastiff-X called Harley.
Looking forward to next week?
A few extra hours at work and a hopefully quiet week. Increasing my daily
walks to work. Hopefully will walk three or four times this week.
Thankful for today? Fixed the blog after hours of frustration. A
reminder to just slow down a little and READ things more carefully. And not to
mess around with something that was working fine in the first place! :P An hour’s
walk with a good friend.

I liked your thought, to slow down, and read the instructions for the blog thing. I find myself needing that reminder. I am very impatient with myself, and often find silly mistakes or something I should have seen, if I just wasn't in a rush.
PS - If you like Oprah, I have the six disk collection from her 20th anniversary. I would be happy to send it to you, I am finished with it.
The book you're reading sounds interesting.. so many books, so little time! ;) I'm not an Oprah fan either... i've actually never seen her magazine. But she is a good & inspiring woman all the same. :)
@Rose - thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment on my blog! It's always nice to "meet" new bloggers. And thank you for the Oprah DVD offer. I'd love to take you up on that and would, of course, pay for shipping. x
@Carla - It's quite good, yes. Not quite what I was expecting (more research and less personal story aspect than I would have expected, if that makes sense). And I agree, Oprah's done a tremendous amount of good and is hugely inspiring. Her magazine always has something in it that I'm currently working on or towards... :)
Love the dog sled photo..I did it 10 yrs ago and loved it.

Hi! Stopping by from SNCC. I've never heard of that book- sounds interesting though! And I don't know what dog mushing is but it looks like fun!!
With the nice weather I've been biking outside AND today have started walking for 30 minutes during my lunch. I just wish this weather would last all the way through til summer!
